Abacus plays 'Best of Fest' at Camden IFF

Abacus: Small Enough to Jail has earned  a place in CIFF's 'Best of Fest' program; Abacus director Steve Jamesparticipating in the Points North Forum's The Verité Director workshop with Jeff Unay (THE CAGE FIGHTER). 

Abacus continues a successful and sustained festival run, having garnered the Audience Award at the 2017 San Diego Asian Film Festival, the Audience Award: Best Documentary at the 2017 Sarasota Film Festival, and Best Editing: Feature Length Documentary at the 2017 Ashland Independent Film Festival––leading up to the film's national broadcast on PBS' FRONTLINE on September 12.

Abacus director Steve James will discuss the creative challenges of being a verité director with director Jeff Unay, including how to build deep relationships with subjects and distill the messiness of everyday life into a powerful character-driven story. The discussion takes place on Saturday, September 16 at 1:30PM.
